No laughing matter: Logo designer fined for hurting colleague over joke

JOHOR BARU: A logo designer was fined RM1,300 by the Magistrate’s Court here for injuring his colleague following a joke gone wrong.

Emmanuelson Anak Tijon, 26, pleaded guilty to injuring the 37-year-old woman at a canteen of the golf resort in Pasir Gudang at around 9am on Nov 26 last year.

Emmanuelson had splashed water on the victim before hitting her on the back of her head.

He had done that because he was unhappy about a joke made by the victim.

Deputy Public Prosecutor R. Nevina urged the court to hand out a suitable sentence in consideration of the victim’s injuries.

National Legal Aid Foundation counsel K. Bharathi, who represented Emmanuelson, asked the court for a lower sentence, seeing this was his first offence.

“The accused is a bachelor and is taking care of his parents and younger sibling with a monthly salary of RM2,000,” she said.

The court ordered Emmanuelson to pay a fine of RM1,300 in default of three months' jail.
