Fallen construction crane causes traffic gridlock in Bayan Lepas

BALIK PULAU: A 25-tonne construction crane truck crashed onto its side with its crane segment blocking the road at Jalan Permatang Damar Laut in Kampung Seronok, Bayan Lepas, on Friday (May 16).

Bayan Lepas assemblyman Datuk Azrul Mahathir Aziz said the fallen crane from a housing construction site disrupted the morning commute with a gridlock starting at 9am.

"I rushed to the location after the state assembly meeting and found many vehicles stalled in the area," said Azrul on Facebook on Friday.

"I managed to inspect the area with the help of Safety and Health Department (DOSH) officers and found out the crane had brake issues.

Azrul said no one was injured in the incident, and the crane driver was later taken to the hospital for treatment.

"We managed to remove the crane with the help of the police, Fire and Rescue Services and Civil Defence Department, and the road was re-opened for traffic at 2pm," he added.
