Man found drowned after 4WD plunges into Sarawak River


KUCHING: A man was found drowned after his four-wheel drive vehicle plunged into the Sarawak River near the Tun Salahuddin Bridge here on Wednesday (May 14) night.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the body of the 62-year-old local man was found by divers from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department still in the vehicle at 10am on Thursday.

"The case is still under investigation, and so far, the police have not found any criminal elements. Members of the public with information should come forward to assist the police investigation. The public is also advised not to make any speculations about this case," he told reporters when met at the scene of the incident.

Earlier, the Sarawak Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, in a statement, said that a four-wheel drive vehicle was reported to have fallen into the Sarawak River near the bridge on Thursday.

Witnesses said the vehicle, which was parked under the bridge, had moved and then plunged into the river. - Bernama
