Melaka govt wants hospital to probe urgent care response

MELAKA: A directive has been issued by the state government to Hospital Melaka to investigate a claim by a mother that her baby was not given urgent treatment.

State health, human resources and unity committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem said the directive was issued to the head of the hospital yesterday.

“I contacted the hospital director to initiate an investigation into the alleged lack of urgent treatment when the child was referred to the hospital on May 10,” said Ngwe, responding to the widely shared claim.

Ngwe, who is in Pekanbaru, Indonesia on an official visit, confirmed he had seen the video that went viral.

The baby’s mother, Siti Aishah Rahim, who uploaded the video on Facebook, claimed that she arrived at the Emergency and Trauma Department of the hospital at 2.30pm on Saturday after her 22-month-old baby, Siti Farha Adelia Mohd Firdaus, developed a fever.

“When we arrived at the hospital, the nurse took a blood sample and we were left waiting while her body temperature rose to 38ºC, 39ºC and eventually 40ºC.

“I kept asking for help but the only response I got was to wait, until my baby suffered a seizure at around 1am on Sunday,” said the 27-year-old mother in the Facebook post.
