KOTA TINGGI: A total of 21 Malaysians undergoing military training in India and Pakistan are unaffected by the ongoing conflict, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
The Defence Minister said 18 Armed Forces personnel and officers are currently receiving training at military colleges in India while three others are undergoing similar training in Pakistan.
“They are involved in various training at military colleges in both countries but they are not involved in the conflict areas.
“The majority of them will complete their training at the end of this year and we will continue to monitor their safety,” he told reporters after launching the JanaVeteran veteran farming project in Ladang Telok Sengat here on Thursday (May 8).
On Wednesday (May 7), India and Pakistan exchanged heavy artillery fire along their contested frontier after New Delhi launched deadly missile strikes on its arch-rival, in the worst violence between the nuclear-armed neighbours in two decades.
Meanwhile, when asked about the Air Force fighter jet that had landing gear issues in Kedah, Mohamed Khaled said the incident did not involve any injuries.
He added that the Air Force is investigating the matter.
On Tuesday (May 6), the runway at Sultan Abdul Halim Airport in Kedah was temporarily closed after the fighter jet had landing issues.
The airport’s manager reportedly said the airport was reopened later at night after the aircraft was removed from the runway, which was then cleaned and inspected.
