Four Sandakan campuses face power cut over unpaid bills

KOTA KINABALU: Four higher learning institutions in Sandakan risk having their power supply cut off due to unpaid bills by their main electricity account holder.

A notice from Sabah Electricity, dated May 5 and seen by The Star, stated that SEH Power Sdn Bhd, which manages electricity for the Sandakan Education Hub, has failed to settle outstanding payments despite being given ample time to resolve the matter as agreed with the Sabah Energy Commission.

The affected premises include Universiti Malaysia Sabah Sandakan Campus, Politeknik Sandakan, Maktab Rendah Sains Sabah, and Kolej Vokasional Sandakan 2.

An administration staff member from Politeknik Sandakan confirmed receiving the notice but said their campus still has electricity as of Thursday (May 8).

The notice was signed by Sabah Electricity’s Head of Retail Operation, Razaliegh Mohd Zain.

However, the amount of the outstanding payment was not stated in the notice.
