IPOH: The Perak state government is considering the possible adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) for its executive councillors and officials, according to Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
“If that is the trend worldwide, Perak won’t want to be left behind. We’ll follow that trend,” the Perak Mentri Besar told a press conference on Friday (May 2) after witnessing a leasing agreement between Casuarina Meru Sdn Bhd and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) for the operation of an EV charging station at the hotel here.
Present was TNB’s president and chief executive officer, Datuk Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan.
Saarani said Perak aimed to install 500 charging bays by the end of 2025.
He stated that 149 such bays have been installed across 56 locations in the state.
When asked about TNB’s efforts to strengthen the infrastructure for EV charging, Megat Jalaluddin said: “There are two main approaches here. First, we supply electricity to interested charge point operators who want to make EV charging a business, and we also install our own TNB chargers to encourage EV usage.”
