Former Star Media Group officer Saharah Mahmood passes away at 77

PETALING JAYA: Former Star Media Group senior administration officer Saharah Mahmood has passed away at the age of 77.

Saharah, who retired from Star Media Group in 2009 after decades of dedicated service, died at 5.43am on Monday (April 28).

It was learnt that she suffered a stroke a few years previously.

Saharah was born on July 13, 1948, and her family hailed from Muar, Johor.

She first joined the Star Media Group subsidiary then known as Papyrus Sdn Bhd, on November 13, 1978.

Her superior, SM Rajah, who was in charge of the company’s admin and personnel department, said Saharah initially served in the administration department.

She was later appointed as a senior administration officer, a position she held with great commitment and efficiency until her retirement on July 14, 2003.

She was rehired on contract shortly thereafter, serving until March 31, 2009.

Throughout her years at Star Media Group, Rajah said Saharah was known for her dedication, organisational skills, and caring nature.

“She worked closely with senior management, including former managing director Datuk Steven Tan, often assisting with major events such as the company’s anniversaries and other corporate functions.

“Her colleagues remember her as an all-rounder who would stay back late to ensure everything ran smoothly.

“Saharah’s professionalism and devotion left a lasting impression on many, including those who worked with her during the early years of Star Media Group’s growth.

"She was particularly well regarded for her warmth, compassion, and meticulous attention to detail, and other departments sought her expertise, especially on protocol matters,” he said fondly.

Outside of work, Saharah was a known animal lover with a special fondness for cats, caring for over 20 of them at her home in Section 14, Petaling Jaya.

She was laid to rest at 10.30am on Monday at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery.
