MCMC investigates AI-generated false claims about Pahang govt

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has investigated a man suspected of posting false information about the Pahang state government on Facebook, allegedly generated using artificial intelligence.

The post, uploaded on April 19, reportedly sparked speculation and negative public reaction over alleged illegal farming activities in the Raub district.

In a statement on Tuesday (April 22), MCMC said it recorded the individual’s statement on Monday (April 21) at the Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarters in Selangor. A mobile phone and SIM card were seized for forensic analysis.

MCMC warned that it will not tolerate the misuse of social media to spread false or misleading content.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which carries penalties of up to RM500,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both, upon conviction. - Bernama
