Ayer Kuning polls: BN to woo fence-sitters by clarifying issues, says Tok Mat

TAPAH: Barisan Nasional will try to woo fence-sitters to vote for its candidate in the Ayer Kuning by-election, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The Umno deputy president said there are a lot of fence-sitters or grey voters that they need to get closer to.

"They are the ones that we need to get closer to, to explain to them some issues that they may be facing.

"Some of these issues will play on their minds, and we need to clarify a lot of it, including issues that are being played up (by the Opposition)," he said in a press conference during his visit to the Batu Tiga district polling station here on Thursday (April 17).

"I will also try to answer as many queries in my dialogue with the people here," he added.

The by-election was called following the death of its incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin in February.

Polling is on April 26 while early voting is on April 22.

Barisan will be represented by Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, who faces up against Perikatan Nasional's Abd Muhaimin Malek and KS Bawani of Parti Sosialis Malaysia for the state seat.

Mohamad said the grey voters comprise mostly youth and first-time voters.

"They would want to hear what we can offer before making any decisions.

"They will also look at what issues are trending, so we need to explain these issues to them," he said.

"We cannot pretend to not know of the issues being played up.

"They want to be certain before giving the mandate to the candidate from whichever party," he added.
