TAPAH: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) candidate Bawani KS has become the first contender in the Ayer Kuning by-election to unveil a campaign manifesto that outlines three key pledges.

The three promises are centred around inclusive development, improved infrastructure and more efficient local governance, Bawani told reporters yesterday.

Speaking at the manifesto’s launch outside the Tapah Bus Terminal, Bawani said her campaign is rooted in residents’ everyday concerns, Bernama reported.

The first pledge focuses on balanced and inclusive development, including proposals to revitalise smaller towns within the constituency.

This pledge included initiatives to build affordable housing priced below RM100,000, job creation programmes and infrastructure upgrades.

The second pledge targets basic amenities, such as addressing recurring electricity disruptions, increasing the frequency of public bus services and advocating for essential facilities, including a local bank and post office.

The third pledge aims to improve the efficiency of local councils, including efforts to upgrade drainage systems and enhance the maintenance of recreational parks and public spaces.

The by-election was triggered by the death of incumbent assemblyman Ishsam Shahruddin on Feb 22 due to a heart attack.

Bawani will face Barisan Nasional’s Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir and Perikatan Nasional’s Abd Muhaimin Malek in a three-way contest for the seat.

There are more than 31,800 voters in Ayer Kuning, of whom Malays comprise 57%, Chinese 21%, Indians 14%, Orang Asli 7% and others 1%.

According to the Election Commission, polling is scheduled for April 26, with early voting set for April 22.
