President Xi: China ready to work closely with Malaysia for regional prosperity

PUTRAJAYA: China is ready to work closely with Malaysia further to advance the China-Malaysia community with a shared future, elevating it to a higher level of strategic development for the benefit of both nations and regional prosperity, says Chinese President Xi Jinping.

He said both countries are committed to strengthening and deepening their longstanding friendship.

“This is my first visit to Malaysia in 12 years. Over the past 13 years, Malaysia has made significant strides in national development. Your advocacy of the Madani Government is steadily becoming a promising reality. I extend my sincere congratulations,” he said during his opening remarks before the bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar at Kompleks Seri Perdana on Wednesday (April 16).

He added that China’s enduring strengths, cultivated over millennia, have been a consistent theme in his exchanges with Anwar.

Reflecting on the deep-rooted ties between China and Malaysia, Xi recalled how the Chinese admiral Zheng He made five historic voyages to Melaka centuries ago.

He also highlighted the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations more than five decades ago—breaking through the fog of the Cold War—as well as their solidarity during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Today, our two countries are working in unity to jointly build a community with a shared future. China-Malaysia relations are now entering a new golden era,” he said.

He noted that the longstanding friendship between both nations has taken root through mutual understanding, grown through cultural exchange, been strengthened through mutual benefit, and elevated through adversity.

“Our shared pursuit of values—empathy, sincerity, righteousness, and harmony—reflects the wisdom and courage of our peoples. This legacy is a treasured asset that both sides hold dear,” he said.

Xi reiterated his commitment to working with Malaysia to push forward the development of the China-Malaysia community with a shared future in a more strategic and high-level direction.

“I am willing to work hand in hand with you to deliver greater benefits to our people and to contribute to regional peace and prosperity. Let the friendship between our two nations continue to flourish for generations to come,” he said.
