Three immigration officers remanded for alleged graft at KLIA

PETALING JAYA: Three Immigration Department personnel stationed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport have been remanded for seven days for alleged corruption involving more than RM10mil.

Magistrate Nor Izzati Zakaria allowed the remand application starting Tuesday (April 15) after it was submitted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The suspects, in their 40s, are Grade KP2 Immigration staff, according to a report by Sinar Harian.

They were detained simultaneously in an operation carried out in Kuala Lumpur, Nilai and Johor Baru on Monday (April 14).

The syndicate was said to have used a “counter setting” modus operandi, where they allowed foreigners into the country without going through Immigration checks and procedures.

In return, an amount of money was believed to be distributed among the Immigration staff involved in the chain of activities.

According to the report, MACC also seized some jewellery and cash during the operation.

Apart from that, the suspects’ bank accounts have been identified, and investigations are ongoing.
