PUTRAJAYA: The development of the national ruminant industry to achieve 25% self-sufficiency by 2030 and implementing the Fisheries Sector Climate Change Action Plan 2024-2030 are among the food security initiatives the country is adopting, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu (pic).
The Agriculture and Food Security Minister said the initiatives were decided upon at the recent executive committee meeting on National Food Security Policy.
The meeting aimed to formulate a proposal for a more inclusive national food security direction and propose a government-focused strategy to address related issues.
Mohamad said the meeting, which convened on Monday (April 14), also discussed aquaculture sub-sector reforms through research and development as well as adopting current technology.
"The meeting detailed the effects of the increased tariffs imposed by the United States and the impact on the country's agri-food sector.
"It also involved the integration of the Malaysian Food Composition Database (MyFCD) as a strategic component in national food security under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP)," he said in a statement on Tuesday (April 15).
He added that appreciation should be shown for the strategic synergy between his ministry and the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry for successfully curbing price increases, and making this year one of the best in the history of price control ahead of festive seasons. – Bernama
