Johor police probing death of baby in daycare

JOHOR BARU: Police are investigating the death of a five-month-old baby boy at a day care centre in Kangkar Pulai here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said that police received a report lodged by the victim’s 31-year-old mother at around 4.24pm on Wednesday (April 9).

“The baby was found unconscious after a 34-year-old local woman, who works as a babysitter at the centre, tried to wake him up from his sleep.

“The victim was then brought to Sultanah Aminah Hospital, but the hospital staff confirmed his death,” he said here on Thursday (April 10).

ACP Kumarasan said that a post-mortem examination on the victim found no physical injuries on his body.

“The cause of his death is still under investigation, and no arrest has been made so far,” he said, adding that police have classified the case under sudden death together with Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
