'Ratu Naga' apologises for anthem mix-up at Perak school

IPOH: Social media personality Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, also known as Ratu Naga, has apologised for mistakenly alleging that pupils at a Chinese school in Perak sang the National Anthem in Chinese.

Syarul Ema admitted to mishearing the song and removed her post within 10 minutes of uploading it.

"For some cybertroopers who claimed I've mocked the Perak Anthem, they are mistaken. I didn't even mention it was the state anthem.

"The video didn't go viral from my platform, as some managed to download and share it," she stated on her Facebook page on Friday (April 4).

Syarul Ema had allegedly accused the Chinese school pupils of disrespecting the National Anthem, causing the video to go viral on Friday.

The video also showed the pupils singing during an event attended by DAP Socialist Youth chief Woo Kah Leong.

Many netizens criticised her for making the allegations.

Separately, Woo, who is the state executive council chairman and Pasir Bedamar assemblyman, said those trying to create an issue should learn to differentiate between Negaraku and the Perak Anthem.

"I call on those playing with the issue to improve their general knowledge, especially regarding distinguishing Negaraku from the Perak Anthem.

"Like any national schools, Chinese-type national schools also instill the spirit of patriotism and love for their state among the pupils," he said on his Facebook page, adding that the video was taken last year.

"As a Perakian, I am proud when singing the state anthem and pleased to see all generations of pupils, regardless of schools, doing the same," he added.
