KOTA KINABALU: This year’s much anticipated month-long Harvest Festival will be themed “Kaamatan For All”.
The announcement was made by Sabah Kaamatan Festival Organising Committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister and state Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industries Minister.
He shared that the theme will be prominently featured across all forms of media, including print, broadcast, and social media, throughout the 2025 Kaamatan Festival celebrations.
“The Kaamatan Festival, celebrated throughout May, is Sabah’s largest and most beloved cultural and traditional event, marking the culmination of the state’s harvest season,” he said.
However, its significance goes beyond agriculture, it is a heartfelt celebration of the unity that binds the diverse ethnic communities in Sabah.
The festival brings together the Kadazandusun, Murut, Rungus, Bajau, and many other indigenous groups to celebrate shared traditions, cultural pride, and the bounty of the land.
Kitingan highlighted that the theme reflects the festival’s inclusive spirit, embracing everyone regardless of background and emphasising the importance of harmony and togetherness.
“The theme will be used consistently across all promotional materials and publications during the festival, and I urge all parties to adhere to it,” Kitingan said.
With traditional dances, music, the iconic Unduk Ngadau beauty pageant, and vibrant harvest feasts, the Kaamatan Festival is a joyful occasion that draws visitors from across the world to experience Sabah’s rich cultural tapestry.
