MUAR: A man was killed and a woman injured when two five-tonne lorries collided on the North-South Expressway (NSE).
The Johor Fire and Rescue Department operations centre received an emergency call on the incident at 3.46am on Friday (April 4).
Operations commander Johairi Sameon said the accident occurred at KM169.8 southbound on the expressway.
“Our team arrived at the scene, about 27km away, at 4.11am,’’ he said in a statement.
Johairi said 31 firefighters, an emergency medical response services vehicle and two fire rapid tender vehicles from the Tangkak and Jasin Betari (in Melaka) stations were deployed.
Two people were found trapped in one lorry, he added.
"The 34-year-old driver was pronounced dead by the paramedic team from the Health Ministry at the scene," he said, adding that the 35-year-old woman passenger was injured.
The driver of the other lorry was unhurt, he said.
The victim's body was handed over to police and the Health Ministry for further action, Johairi added.
