Army hands over assault probe to cops

SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Army has handed over the investigation into one of its personnel who allegedly assaulted a female driver in Jalan Persiaran Senawang 4 to the police.

Army chief Jen Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan said the army is closely monitoring the case and takes any behaviour that could tarnish its image seriously.

“The individual is still under investigation. I will not speculate or comment further. Let the police conclude the investigation,” he told Bernama yesterday.

On Monday, Seremban police chief Asst Comm Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the 35-year-old soldier was released on police bail and the case was referred to Bukit Aman.

The man was arrested for allegedly assaulting the 28-year-old woman, which caused injuries to her right rib and swelling on the back of her head.

The incident occurred at 10.15pm on Saturday when the woman, who was driving, could not avoid the man’s wife, 34, and their seven-year-old daughter, who suddenly crossed the road, resulting in minor injuries to both.
