Teens arrested in JB for public disorder and vandalism


JOHOR BARU: Four teenagers aged 15 to 18 were arrested for allegedly being involved in public disorder and vandalism around the city.

Johor Baru OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh Mahinder Singh said a police report on the incident was made by a 21-year-old local man who claimed to have been assaulted around 6.30pm on Friday (March 28) in front of an apartment.

"The victim, who was riding in a Perodua Alza with his siblings, was stopped by a group of men, who later assaulted him with a helmet when he when he got out of his vehicle," said ACP Balveer in a statement on Sunday (March 31).

Acting on information, the police later arrested four suspects around Tampoi, Johor Bahru on Saturday and Sunday.

"Two of them had past criminal records, and all the suspects were brought to the Johor Baru Court for remand application," reported Sinar Harian on Sunday.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possessing weapons or missiles at a riot, which carries a potential penalty of up to five years imprisonment, a fine or both.

"They are also being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing loss of RM25 or more with a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment or fine, or both.

Before that, a three-minute video showing an altercation in the apartment in Johor Bahru went viral.
