Stability, peace come from mutual respect, says PM Anwar

PETALING JAYA: It is important to preserve unity and respect among all religious and racial groups in the country to ensure national stability, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says.

In his special Hari Raya Aidilfitri address on Sunday (March 30), the Prime Minister also said it is important to uphold the dignity of the people at all times.

“We need to defend relations among races and religious followers, as well as instill love among us.

“Because without respect among one another, this country will not achieve stability and peace,” said Anwar on Sunday (March 30).

“Hopefully, this Eid Mubarak will be celebrated with such awareness, raising our dignity as a wiser and kinder human being that performs our duties with integrity,” added Anwar.

Anwar’s special address was broadcasted over social media and local television networks.

At the same time, Anwar said he managed to join several Ihya’ Ramadan programmes at several ministries and states, which includes districts such as Selising, Tawau, Chukai and among others.

“It is special because I could witness firsthand the voices and grouses of the grassroots and the people, as well as the effectiveness of policies by the federal, state and local governments,” said Anwar.

“We will continue stimulating the growth of the economy, but I want to stress here that our strength is our success in raising the living standards of the majority of the people,” added Anwar.

Anwar also said Muslims have endured the fasting month and he hoped that it will teach Muslims lessons on important values in life.

“Hopefully this will emphasise discipline, integrity and also better health.

“Besides that, we should also be more concerned about our neighbours, including the ongoing catastrophe of injustice in Gaza, Palestine,” said Anwar.

Anwar also apologised to all Muslims and Malaysians if his actions were lacking.

“God-willing, I will do my best for the welfare of all,” added Anwar.
