KUALA LUMPUR: Around two million vehicles are expected to enter Johor, including via the Johor Causeway and the Second Link, while three million are anticipated to head to Perak during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.
In JOHOR, state police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the estimated number of vehicles entering the state represented a threefold increase compared to regular days.
"The Johor Causeway and the Second Link will experience increased traffic due to the long weekend holiday.
"In addition, 47 congestion hotspots and 36 blackspot locations, which are areas prone to accidents, have been identified and will be the main focus throughout Op Selamat,” he said.
He spoke to reporters after the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Johor contingent Road Safety Advocacy Programme in collaboration with the Johor Social Security Organisation (Perkeso), in conjunction with Op Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri at the Perling Toll Plaza (Johor Baru-bound) on Friday (March 28).
Comm Kumar said this year’s Op Selamat in Johor involved 1,998 personnel, comprising 251 officers and 1,747 personnel, while the Emergency Response Team (ERT) will be based at the North-South Expressway (PLUS) offices in Yong Peng and Sedenak.
Meanwhile, in PERAK, state police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said traffic entering the state is expected to increase by 20 to 30 per cent during Aidilfitri compared to regular days, with an estimated three million vehicles on the road.
"A total of 37 senior officers and 236 junior officers from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department are deployed for Op Selamat 24 throughout the operation,” he said in a press conference after the Road Safety Awareness Campaign in conjunction with the Perak contingent’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the Meru Raya Terminal, here on Friday.
Comm Noor Hisam said police have also identified 21 blackspot locations during this year’s Aidilfitri period.
Among the locations identified are KM31 of Jalan Ipoh-Lumut near the Bandar Seri Iskandar traffic light, KM4 of Jalan Sitiawan-Lumut near the Lotus traffic light, KM12 of Jalan Teluk Intan-Hutan Melintang, and KM80 of Jalan Ipoh-Butterworth near the Simpang traffic light.- Bernama
