Ipoh cops nab two for breaching terms of fireworks sale permits

IPOH: Two men have been arrested for violating the terms of permits issued for the sale of firecrackers and fireworks in an operation at separate locations here on Thursday (March 27) night.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the men, in their 30s, were arrested in Kanthan and Kleban during checks on 126 premises in the city.

He said they were arrested for selling types of firecrackers and fireworks not stated in their permits.

"We also seized various types of firecrackers and fireworks worth RM10,000," he told a press conference here on Thursday night.

He said police would seek an order to remand the two suspects on Friday (March 28) for investigation under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.

ACP Abang Zainal said city police had received 200 applications for permits to sell firecrackers and fireworks in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration, and 126 of these were approved. – Bernama
