SEREMBAN: Three people, including two Myanmar nationals, were charged at the Sessions Court here with human trafficking offences.

Myanmar nationals Lwin Ko Ko, 42 and Min Zaw, 41 were first jointly charged before judge Surita Budin with trafficking 11 of their fellow countrymen.

They were jointly charged with committing the offence around 10.55am on March 5 along the main road in Persiaran Lavender Heights.

The duo were charged under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (Atipsom) 2007 read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

Murugan was charged under Section 26J of Atipsom, which carries a jail term of up to five years or a fine of up to RM250,000 or both upon conviction.

No plea was recorded from the trio as the matter came under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi then told the court her team was not offering the accused bail as it was a security-related offence.

She also asked the court for another date to allow the recording of depositions (sworn evidence in an affidavit) of the smuggled persons.

Lawyer Datuk Mandave Singh Gill, who appeared for Muruga,n also asked the court if his client's matter could be transferred to the High Court immediately.

However, Nurul Balkis objected to this.
