Sabah’s Semarak Syawal 1446H programme offers cheaper Raya essentials

KOTA KINABALU: With Hari Raya Aidilfitri just around the corner, Sabahans can look forward to more affordable essentials, thanks to the Semarak Syawal 1446H Programme and Special Sales for the Agro-Based Food Industry (IMAT).

Organised by the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry through the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), the programme provides quality daily necessities at lower prices, helping the local community prepare for Syawal without over-exceeding their budgets.

Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup said the initiative ensures direct access to fresh and reasonably priced products, including agricultural produce, agro-based food items, and Raya essentials.

"This programme not only helps consumers save money but also creates opportunities for Pasar Tani and Agro-Based Industry (IAT) entrepreneurs to sell their products at attractive prices," he said after launching the state-level programme in Keningau on Thursday (March 27).

Shoppers can take advantage of exclusive discounts through promotions such as Happy Hour Sales for IMAT products and fresh chicken, as well as specially curated offers like the Madani Raya Basket, Agro Madani MyRakyat Combo, and Raya Basket Combo.

“The programme is not limited to Keningau’s permanent farmers’ market but is also happening at 15 other locations across Sabah and Labuan.

“With 487 entrepreneurs participating, it is expected to generate RM1mil in sales,” he said.

Major locations include Pasar Tani Kinabatangan, Sabindo Tawau Farmers’ Market, Wisma Persekutuan Sandakan, Econsave Supermarket Lahad Datu, Milimewa Semporna Compound, Kien Hiong Shop Compound in Ranau, and Labuan Walk in W.P. Labuan.

Also present at the event were the Ministry’s Food and Agro-Based Industry division secretary, Datuk Muhammad Ammir Haron, and FAMA Sabah director, Sarman Sidno.
