Sabah declares April 2 as additional public holiday, if Hari Raya falls on March 31

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah observes April 2 as an additional public holiday, coinciding with the official birthday of the Tuan Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, which is on March 30.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor (pic) said that with March 30 being the official governor’s birthday, the next day (March 31) is declared a public holiday.

“The State government has set that if Aidilfitri falls on March 31, then April 2 will be another public holiday for Sabah as per the Holidays Ordinance (Chapter 56) Vol I,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (March 26).

This decision considers the possibility that the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday may fall on Monday (March 31) and Tuesday (April 1), depending on the sighting of the Syawal crescent moon on the night of March 30.
