Aminuddin urges vigilance against illegal carcass dumping in Negri Sembilan

SEREMBAN: Attempts to dispose of infected pig carcasses from a neighboring state in Negri Sembilan continue, despite a warning from state officials, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

He said that state enforcement authorities intercepted a truck carrying the carcasses near the border a few days ago and instructed it to turn back.

"Please do not make Negri Sembilan a dumping ground for carcasses.

"I want all state enforcement agencies to step up enforcement and to take stringent action against those responsible for this," he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting at Wisma Negri.

Aminuddin stated that after publicly issuing a warning against such illegal activities on March 5, another lorry-load of pig carcasses was discovered dumped near Port Dickson.

"This is serious as the carcasses are dumped not too far away from people's homes," he said, adding that the authorities were still investigating where the carcasses originated from.

On March 5, Aminuddin had said more than 100 pig carcasses were found dumped on private property in what was supposed to be the Pig Farming Area in Port Dickson.

He said that was the third such incident reported in the district in recent weeks.

Aminuddin then urged the authorities, including the police and the Veterinary Services Department (DVS), to be more vigilant.

On Feb 25, Selangor DVS reported that 1,868 pigs from two farms in Selangor were disposed of to control and prevent the spread of African swine fever (ASF).

The disposed pigs were among the 76,000 infected with ASF after livestock sampling tests were conducted at 114 licensed farms in Sepang and Kuala Langat.

The disposal involved euthanasia using high-density carbon dioxide gas before the carcasses were buried in plantations.
