Police seize pig carcasses and lorry in Johor operation

JOHOR BARU: Police have seized pig carcasses and a lorry valued at RM375,000, with the meat believed to have been brought into Johor from a neighbouring country.

The remains were discovered during an inspection of a lorry at Taman Industri Jaya, Skudai, on Friday (March 7) at 11.10pm.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the carcasses were seized during a joint operation called Ops Beku, involving the Johor Police Contingent Special Branch Unit and the Johor Veterinary Department.

"The department confirmed that the 95 carcasses from 45 pigs were not from any licensed or approved abattoirs," he said in a press statement.

ACP Kumarasan said the suspect also failed to produce ownership documents for the animal parts.

He said the 33-year-old suspect has been arrested, and the seized meat has been handed over to the Veterinary Department for further action.

ACP Kumarasan said the case is being investigated under Sub-rule 5 (3) of the Animals (Control of Slaughter) Rules 2009, which prohibits selling, displaying for sale, or possessing an animal carcass not slaughtered at a licensed or approved abattoir.

He said anyone with information on the case can contact the Iskandar Puteri Police Contingent Control Centre at 07-5113522 or 07-5114486 (Hotline).
