Sufficient egg supply in Malaysia to meet demand, says Mat Sabu

PETALING JAYA: The supply of eggs in the country is sufficient to meet the demand, says Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

He said that this is because close cooperation between KPKM and local egg producers has ensured that the daily production level of eggs remains stable and satisfactory.

“To ensure supply stability, the ministry consistently conducts close monitoring of the production and distribution chain of chicken eggs from farm level to end consumers,” said Mohamad.

Mohamad said this in a press release on Saturday (March 22) to counter confusion due to reports regarding the sudden increase in chicken egg prices in the United States and allegations of possible smuggling of chicken eggs abroad.

“Enforcement measures continue to be strengthened by establishing strategic collaboration with other agencies and ministries to monitor the export activities of food supplies abroad,” he added.

He then said that the government remains committed to ensuring national food security through comprehensive strategic policies and action plans, including efforts to increase local production capacity and support for the agri-food industry.

“The public is advised not to make any unfounded speculations and to always refer to verified information through the ministry’s official channels.

We will continue to monitor current developments and are ready to take immediate action if necessary to ensure the stability of the national food supply remains sufficient and guaranteed,” said Mohamad.
