Flood-hit students not required to attend classes in uniform, says Fadhlina

KLUANG: Students, especially those affected by floods, are not strictly required to attend classes in their uniforms, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

She added that education authorities would monitor and look after the welfare of teachers impacted by the floods.

“We understand that many children were unable to bring their school uniforms when they were evacuated.

“It is not an issue; they may attend school in any appropriate attire. At the same time, I have also instructed the state Education Department to ensure that all teachers’ well-being is looked after.

“We have received reports of some teachers being stranded, and the state Education Department has taken all necessary steps to provide assistance,” she said.

She said this when met by reporters after visiting the SK Sri Kencana temporary relief centre (PPS) here on Friday (March 21).

Fadhlina added that for students who are not affected by the floods, she encouraged them to continue wearing their uniforms as usual unless circumstances, such as continuous heavy rain, prevent them from doing so.

She also said that the ministry’s psychosocial teams and Smart Support Team (SST) were ready to provide emotional support and learning assistance to affected students.
