Woman held over RM60,000 jewellery theft from Nilai home

NILAI: Police have arrested a woman for alleged involvement in a RM60,000 jewellery theft from a house here.

Nilai police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said the suspect, a foreigner in her 40s, was picked up on Sunday (March 16) night.

"We received a report from the victim, a woman, at around 8pm on Friday (March 14) regarding the theft at her house at Taman Laman Puteri Nilai.

"She claimed that a gold ring and two necklaces worth some RM60,000 were missing from her home and that she believed it was stolen by a foreign man she had engaged to carry out renovation work at her house," he said in a statement on Monday (March 17).

Supt Malik said a team went to look for the suspect at a house in Kg Bahagia Jiboi in Seremban, but he is believed to have absconded.

"The woman who was detained on Sunday night is believed to be connected to the theft," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine upon conviction.

Supt Malik said police have since recorded statements from three witnesses to assist in investigations.

He also urged those with information on the case to contact investigating officer R. Raj Kumar at 010 9021 255 or the nearest police station to assist in the probe.

Earlier on Monday, a video clip made the rounds on social media said to depict the victim talking about the alleged theft.
