Singaporean boy dies in hospital after car-lorry crash in JB

JOHOR BARU: A seven-year-old Singaporean boy died while being treated for injuries after an accident between a car and a lorry at KM2.4 of Jalan Pantai here bound for Permas Jaya.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident occurred at 10.34pm on Sunday (March 16).

“Initial investigations found that the lorry, driven by a 57-year-old man, was coming from Masai towards the city centre.

“The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer into the oncoming lane," he said on Monday (March 17).

ACP Raub added that the lorry then collided with a Singapore-registered car driven by a 44-year-old man.

He said there were five people in the car including the driver, ranging in age from two to 37 years.

“Four of them are Singaporeans while one is an Indonesian national.

"The collision caused the boy, who was seated at the back, to be thrown out of the vehicle.

“At around 3am on Monday, we were informed that the boy died while being treated at a private hospital,” he added.

ACP Raub said the car driver and passengers are receiving treatment at Hospital Sultan Ismail.

“We have detained the lorry driver, who tested positive for methamphetamine.

“Further checks also found that the suspect has no driving licence or vocational licence while the vehicle’s road tax has expired,” he said.

ACP Raub urged any witnesses to contact the Johor Baru South police hotline at 07-2182222.
