Female uni student critically hurt after being stabbed by male friend on campus in Sungai Petani


SUNGAI PETANI: A female student was critically injured after being stabbed by a male friend in an incident at a university campus here on Monday (March 17), Sinar Harian reports.

The incident, which occurred around 10:30am, left the victim with serious injuries to her back from the stabbing.

It is understood that both individuals, aged 19, are foundation students at the university.

The incident is believed to have happened while the victim and several friends were walking towards the library when approached by the suspect, who is said to be her ex-boyfriend, Sinar Harian reported.

The suspect then stabbed the victim in the back, causing her to collapse.

During the struggle with the victim, the suspect is believed to have sustained injuries to his hand.

Meanwhile, Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail confirmed that the suspect has been apprehended.

"Following a report made by the university's security personnel this morning, we managed to arrest the suspect when he was seeking treatment at the campus clinic," he said.

He added that the victim is currently receiving treatment at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) and is in a conscious and stable condition.

The case is being investigated under Sections 324 / 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons.
