Many hands make light work: Lizalman (eighth from right), Agustavia (left) and other firefighters stirring bubur lambuk to be distributed to the community.
KOTA KINABALU: Firemen from the Lintas Fire and Rescue station swapped their helmets with “chef hats” to cook bubur lambuk.
Dressed in aprons over their orange camouflage uniforms, they stirred steaming pots of the traditional savoury porridge, filling the air with the rich aroma of spices.
With ladles in hand, the firemen demonstrated their teamwork in ensuring the porridge was cooked to perfection before being packed and distributed.
The scene at the fire station was a far cry from their usual high-adrenaline firefighting duties.
They carefully measured coconut milk, tossed in fragrant herbs and stirred the ingredients in giant pots over an open flame.
Lintas station chief Agustavia Joe Guasi said the event was made even more memorable with the participation of state Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Lizalman Abu.
“A total of seven pots of bubur lambuk were prepared and distributed to the community,” she said in a statement on Friday.
She added that the programme was organised in collaboration with PETRONAS and Adabi.
Agustavia said packs of bubur lambuk were distributed to fire stations in the Kota Kinabalu zone, as well as Menggatal and Inanam, Kingfisher police station, six mosques across the city, an orphanage, and customers at selected PETRONAS stations.
“This is just another way for us to serve the community. Usually, we are rushing in to save lives, but now we are sharing blessings,” said Agustavia.
