Vehicles queueing up along the road with various sizes of tanks to get water supply at the Agudon Water Treatment Plant in Keningau on Wednesday (Mar 12).
KOTA KINABALU: Parts of Sabah’s interior district Keningau are experiencing water disruptions, believed to be an aftermath of the recent floods.
A 52-second video circulating online shows vehicles lined up with various-sized tanks along a road leading to the Kampung Agudon Water Treatment Plant, as a man voices his frustration over the disruption of water supply.
“We have been facing water problems for about a week now. Today (Thursday, March 13), the supply was intermittent… we were told there is rationing.
“Now, the supply has been cut off again because the treatment plant is undergoing cleaning,” said Jasmine Wong, a resident of Kampung Bulu Silou, about five kilometres from town, when contacted on Thursday.
Wong, who had seen the video said it was taken on Wednesday (March 12), adding if the situation persists, her family may also have to bring their water tank to the treatment plant.
She added that due to the shortage, many residents have resorted to buying bottled water.
“But mineral water is selling fast in Keningau… and it's hard to come by,” she said.
However, not all areas are affected.
Annie Chong, 83, who lives in Taman Bariawa in the town centre, said her home still has a steady water supply.
“Our water supply is normal, but we have a different problem—we are still cleaning up after the floods,” she said.
Chong, who hired workers to clear debris and mud after the first wave of flooding in early February, said the recent flash flood two days ago had undone much of their progress.
“We were still cleaning, and now we have to start all over again. There’s only so much we can do,” she said.
Efforts to reach the authorities for comments are ongoing.
