Man detained for assaulting nurse near Kuala Lumpur Hospital

KUALA LUMPUR: A man believed to be suffering from a mental health issue was detained after allegedly assaulting a female nurse near Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said the victim was walking near a bus stop in front of the hospital when a man hit her on the back of her head at about 10.38pm on February 28.

"The victim was injured and required four stitches to her head," he said in a statement.

The suspect was detained at about 10.11pm on March 1 near the scene of the incident following an investigation.

"We also seized a knife belonging to the suspect. Checks revealed the suspect was suffering from a mental health issue and did not have any personal identification documents.

"He also failed to disclose his personal details verbally," he said.

The suspect was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital and held in the psychiatric ward for further observation, ACP Sulizmie said.

"We urge the public to inform the police of any suspicious activity that might endanger them," he added.
