Duo nabbed with over RM100K of drugs in KK

KOTA KINABALU: A senior citizen and a woman in her 20s have been arrested on suspicion of dealing drugs here, with "merchandise" worth RM101,000 seized.

The 70-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were arrested at a parking area in the Api-Api centre here on Thursday (Feb 27), said Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Kasim Muda.

He told a press conference here on Tuesday (March 4) that the woman, who later tested positive for methamphetamine, was standing outside a car and holding a paper bag that was found to contain over 1kg of syabu.

The man was inside the vehicle, he added.

“Following their arrest, the suspects led us to a house in Penampang where 2.1kg of drugs were discovered,” he said, bringing the total seizure to 3.158kg.

ACP Kasim said the drugs were valued at RM101,000.

Two vehicles, jewellery, watches and RM1,066 cash were also confiscated, bringing the total value of drugs and items seized to RM427,109.

“These drugs could have been abused by 15,800 users,” ACP Kasim said, adding that the suspects are believed to have been involved in transporting and distributing drugs since last year.

He said the duo would get their supply through courier services and repack the drugs for distribution to smaller dealers in the city.

The suspects have been remanded for investigation under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and others involved in the syndicate are being traced, he added.

He urged the public to keep helping police fight crime and drug abuse and to contact the city police at 088-529222 with any information on such activities.
