Body of man who fell off Penang Bridge found, police say


GEORGE TOWN: The body of a man who fell from the Penang Bridge on Tuesday (Feb 18) has been found.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the victim was found near one of the bridge poles by the search and rescue team at about 9.05am on Wednesday (Feb 19).

"The body was then identified by family members and later taken to Penang Hospital for post-mortem,” he said.

The 48-year-old victim from Bayan Lepas fell off the Penang Bridge at KM5.5 mainland bound at about 2.15am on Tuesday (Feb 18).

Police received the report from the public at about 2.50am informing them about the incident.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation was initiated with help from the state Fire and Rescue Department and other rescue agencies.

ACP Abdul Rozak said with the discovery of the victim's body, the SAR operation ended and the police thanked the agencies involved in the operation.
