Senior citizen jailed 30 days, fined RM10,000 for drunk driving


 

KOTA KINABALU: A senior citizen was jailed for 30 days and fined RM10,000 for drunk driving that caused an accident in Tawau in July last year.

Lim Shui Sang, 65, was given the sentence after pleading guilty before Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin.

The Magistrate ordered him to spend another three months in jail if he failed to pay the fine and his driving licence suspended for two years.

According to the charge sheet, Lim, who was driving a multi-purpose vehicle while intoxicated, had knocked into a motorcyclist who sustained injuries at Simpang Lorong Delima, in Tawau at about 7.30pm, on July 21.

Lim was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol with a content of 167 milligrams of ethyl in 100ml of blood exceeding the legal limit.

He was charged under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 which carried a maximum of two years jail and a fine of up to RM30,000.
