Mitra, Bursa organise shares carnival to increase equity holdings of Indian community


PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra), in collaboration with Bursa Malaysia Bhd, is organising the 2024/2025 Investment and Shares Carnival Programme to increase equity holdings among the Indian community through stock investment.

In a statement, Mitra said this collaboration aims to educate the public about safe investments as well as to encourage them to avoid falling victim to financial fraud schemes

."The Shares Carnival is an interactive initiative to increase public awareness on financial literacy, investment strategies, the stock market and financial fraud," said the statement.

This carnival also features exhibition booths by various government agencies, including the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department, Bursa Malaysia, SOCSO (the Social Security Organisation), EPF (Employees Provident Fund), AKPK (Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency) and several other agencies.Additionally, lecture sessions by investment industry experts would be held to provide visitors with insights into current financial sector issues and the opportunity to win lucky draw prizes.

Mitra announced that the Shares Carnival will be held in stages in nine states – Johor, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Penang and Selangor – and expected to benefit 4,500 members of the Indian community.

Meanwhile, Mitra and Bursa Malaysia are also organising the Malaysian Indian Investment Programme (MIIP) to empower Indians aged 18 to 40 with investment skills.

"This programme is aimed at giving an understanding of the stock market mechanisms and help participants identify investment strategies that align with their financial goals," according to the statement.MIIP is divided into three levels – Beginner's Level (500 participants), Intermediate Level (300 participants) and Advanced Level (150 participants).

The Advanced Level participants also have the opportunity to undergo job placements in the financial investment sector.The information regarding the organisation of the Shares Carnival in other states will be announced via Mitra's official social media.Applications to join MIIP 2024/2025 can be made through the link https://forms.gle/qloe1N54FLDqgha39 from Jan 21 to Feb 21, 2025.
