Quick thinking security officers prevent fire at Johor Baru mall

JOHOR BARU: The quick action of security officers at a shopping mall here prevented a fire from spreading after it broke out within the building.

Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Yusri Atan said they received an emergency call about the incident at the shopping mall in Tebrau at about 10.16am on Thursday (Feb 13).

"Before we arrived, mall security personnel had successfully extinguished the fire using six dry powder fire extinguishers.

"We then conducted a thorough inspection to ensure the site was safe," he said in a statement on Thursday.

He added that the fire damaged 20% of the toy store, and six firefighters were involved in the operation.

"However, no injuries were reported," he said, adding that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
