KOTA KINABALU: The Education Ministry has allocated RM63mil for schools badly affected by the recent floods in Sabah.
Sabah Education Department director Datuk Raisin Saidin said the allocations was to ensure that all schools reopen without a hitch on the first day of schooling on February 17.
"We will be able to carry out cleaning, minor repairs and replacing furniture that were damaged or destroyed in the floods," he said after paying a courtesy call Sabah Yang DiPertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu here on Wednesday (Feb 12).
"We have received a RM63mil allocation for flood clean up for schools that may be hit by floods again," he added.
According to Raisin, more than 50 schools in Sabah were affected by the recent floods that hit the state.
"Based on the information we have collected, a total 57 schools have been affected by the flood.
"We have 14 schools that are still affected by the floods in Beaufort as of Tuesday (Feb 12).
"Efforts for us to clean the affected schools are underway," he said as he thanked the Education Ministry for the allocation.
Raisin also said that the state government also played an important role in assisting schools affected by the disaster.
"The state government also helps a lot by channelling appropriate aid to the schools," he added.
