Panther killed in hit-and-run on Kuala Pilah road

SEREMBAN: A panther has wound up as roadkill in the dead of night, believed to have been hit by a vehicle in Kampung Orang Asli Tering along Jalan Tampin-Kuala Pilah on Monday (Feb 10).

Negri Sembilan director of the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) Faizal Izham Pikri said they received information around 11pm that the panther, weighing 40kg to 50kg, was found dead on the ground.

"Three members of the Gemas Perhilitan went to the location and found the adult male black panther dead, believed to have been hit by a vehicle.

"An inspection at the scene also found collision marks on the road guardrail,” he said in a statement Tuesday.

He said the Malayan Tiger Conservation Unit of Negeri Sembilan and Seremban Perhilitan later brought the panther's carcass to Negeri Sembilan Perhilitan.

He advised the public and road users to be cautious when driving on dark roads in forested areas or suspected wildlife crossing paths. - Bernama
