MCMC investigating six suspects for fake, indecent FB content on King, Rulers

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating six individuals for uploading false and indecent content involving His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and the Conference of Rulers on Facebook.

An operation was conducted on Tuesday (Feb 11) involving one of the suspects in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur where a smartphone and sim card related to the case were seized to assist in the investigation.

"A forensic analysis will be carried out to obtain evidence to prove the case," said the commission in a statement on Tuesday.

"Other than this another case will be investigated with the police’s classified criminal investigation unit where the suspect's testimony will be taken down on Wednesday.

The commission said the operation on other cases will be conducted throughout the week on suspects around Sungai Petani, Kota Bahru, Kerian and Teluk Intan.

"Earlier, two notices were issued by MCMC for two suspects for their testimonies and a comprehensive investigation will be made and the case will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further decision.

The investigation was conducted under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588) which provides for a maximum punishment of RM50,000 or a year's jail or both.
