MIC: Commit to national harmony this Thaipusam

PETALING JAYA: The religious and cultural diversity of Malaysia is a source of strength, not division, says MIC vice-president Datuk T. Murugiah.

He said that as Hindus prepare to celebrate Thaipusam on Feb 11, they must also reaffirm their commitment to Malaysia’s harmony.

“Thaipusam is a time for prayer, penance and gratitude, as well as an opportunity for self-reflection and spiritual growth,” he said in a statement yesterday.

“While celebrating our respective festivals, it is important to respect and uphold the values of unity, mutual respect and understanding among all communities.

“This inclusivity is what makes Malaysia truly special,” he added.

“On this sacred day, let us remember that our religious and cultural diversity is a strength, not a divider.

“As we witness the grand processions, kavadi offerings and acts of devotion at Batu Caves, Penang and temples nationwide, let us also reaffirm our commitment to national harmony.”

He urged all Malaysians to continue fostering an environment of respect and tolerance.

“The spirit of Thaipusam – sacrifice, discipline, and devotion – can inspire us to work together to build a better Malaysia for all.

“Wishing all Hindu devotees a blessed and meaningful Thaipusam. May Lord Murugan’s divine blessings bring you good health, prosperity, and success.”
