JOHOR BARU: The guidelines for implementing the Community Renewable Energy Aggregation Mechanism (Cream) will be announced once the framework and details are finalised.
Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said that Cream would allow third-party energy suppliers to approach homeowners to lease or rent their rooftop space to generate green electricity for local consumers.
“This will enable homeowners with solar panels on their rooftops to earn an income. At present, they are limited to using the energy for personal consumption under the Net Energy Metering scheme.
“Cream is similar to the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (Cress), which was introduced in September last year, but with a focus on community involvement,” he said.
He said this after the Johor Baru MP Chinese New Year Open House at Dewan Serbaguna Sri Tebrau, here on Saturday (Feb 8).
He further explained that under Cream, homeowners can allow a third party to combine multiple rooftops to develop a solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation system.
“This means rooftop spaces can be pooled together to create larger solar power generation systems.
“The green electricity produced can then be sold to corporate entities looking for renewable energy solutions,” he said.
More to come.
