Firemen rescue woman, three cats from blaze

GEORGE TOWN: Swift action by firefighters saved a woman and her three cats from a burning two-storey shoplot in Tingkat Mahsuri, Bayan Lepas, near here.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department’s Penang operations centre said that on arrival at the scene yesterday, the team was informed that the woman was still inside the shop.

“We sprang into action to rescue her before saving her three cats as well.

“The team’s quick response also prevented the fire from spreading inside the 325sq m shop,” the spokesman said, Bernama reported.

The blaze, he added, was extinguished about 10 minutes later, with an estimated damage of only 20% of the place.

The spokesman said they had received an emergency call at 5.32am and immediately dispatched a team from the Bayan Baru station to the scene.
