Couple held over alleged abuse of boy

KUALA TERENGGANU: A husband and wife have been arrested on suspicion of abusing the man’s 10-year-old son in Manir, near here.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the 27-year-old female suspect is the victim’s stepmother, while the 32-year-old male suspect is the victim’s biological father.

He added the two suspects were arrested at their residence last night following a report by the victim’s biological mother.

Investigations showed the victim lived with the male suspect in 2019 after being granted full custody following the latter’s divorce.

“The victim claims to have been beaten by the male suspect with a belt and rubber pipe, while the female suspect hit him with a clothes hanger,” he said when contacted yesterday, reported Bernama.

He added that an examination by medical officers at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah found bruises on the victim’s body.

“Both suspects have been remanded for seven days until Feb 9,” he said.
