EV, mobile phone battery factory in Melaka razed in inferno


MELAKA: A factory manufacturing electric vehicle (EV) and mobile phone batteries at the Bukit Rambai Industrial Area here was razed in an inferno on Sunday (Feb 2).

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department operations commander, Senior Fire Officer Noor Hafizah Mohammed said her team received a distress call at 12.50pm on Sunday before a total of 30 personnel were dispatched to the site for the firefighting mission, including firemen from Cheng, Melaka Tengah, Ayer Keroh and Alor Gajah stations.

"The factory was 90% destroyed and efforts to fully douse the fire are still ongoing," she said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Melaka housing, local government and disaster management committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin said he has ordered the state Environment Department to investigate the licensing aspects of the factory and evaluate the impact of the fire on the environment.

"Luckily, there were no injuries were reported in the fire," he added.
