KOTA KINABALU: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has launched a comprehensive enforcement initiative to stabilise prices of essential goods in the lead-up to the Chinese New Year.
State KPDN director Shahril Nizam Shahidin announced that 12 essential goods are covered under the maximum price scheme (SHMMP) for the festive season, which runs from Jan 25 to Feb 2.
The goods affected by the scheme include white pomfret, large white prawns, garlic (China), round cabbage (imported), red carrots, imported white carrots, imported potatoes (China), old ginger (imported), chicken wings, live pigs (farm only) and pork (belly, meat and fat).
Shahril said the scheme is launched to ensure fair pricing and adequate stock for fresh produce, meat and seafood during this high-demand period.
“This scheme is designed to stabilise prices and ensure that essential goods remain accessible throughout the festive season.
“This will help Malaysians from all races, religions and cultures celebrate harmoniously without financial strain,” Shahril said at a walkabout to monitor the implementation of the scheme.
He said the maximum price scheme for Chinese New Year is enforced under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (Akhap) 2011.
